UUSGU Religious Exploration Newsletter February 1, 2023

Our theme for February is stars. We’ll be exploring this theme in a multitude of ways. Meet a rooster who needs a little help from his friends to be the star of the barnyard; learn how humankind came from star stuff and longs to return to the stars; discover how although we can’t all be the star, everyone deserves to have their voice heard; and learn how we can all become stars of peace as we make the world a better place. Sail away with us into the stars. Photo by Johannes Plenio on Unsplash

Pink Shirt Day 2023! Last February, Caroline Scott shared with us a wonderful Time for All Ages story about a group of friends and classmates at a Canadian school who wore pink shirts to school in support of a young man who had been bullied. Pink Shirt Day is February 15th. Wear your pink shirt to school and demonstrate your support for the uniqueness of individuals and our right to wear whatever color we want, regardless of gender. Chalica! 2023 This Sunday we will be on our third Sunday of celebrating Chalica, focusing on the third (yellow) Rainbow Promise. Check each week’s newsletter for more information, including a list of ways to bring that week’s learning home through discussion, food, and family fun. The schedule above shows which week we will be celebrating each promise. If your family takes any pictures of your home learning, please share them with me. Also, we are still looking for family photos to include on the poster that we created for the red promise on January 15th.

Darwin Day Please bring your friends and join other earthlings for our next big multigenerational service, Stardust to Life. Do you love animals? How about space exploration? Do you want to learn a little more about how evolution works? Bring a stued animal buddy to share your pew or borrow one of ours. You can even dress up as an animal if that’s your thing. Or come as a star or planet or even an astronaut. I’m looking forward to blasting o with all of you on February 12th at 10 a.m.
A Short RE Committee Report The RE committee met on Sunday, January 22 after the service. During this meeting we completed (we hope) a new RE safety policy. This policy will be headed to the Board of Trustees for final approval. If you are interested in joining the RE committee, we will be meeting next on February 12th after service in the downstairs RE space.
